A Most Bizarre Family

~xAllyCat inspired me to do this. xD

A little explanation:

First, I’ve always thought that Portal was unique and awesome. At first, it kind of freaked the crap out of me with it’s bizarre and dark elements. I mean, c’mon, it’s a computer trying to KILL you, for crying out loud. But, eventually I found it to be a puzzle style that I could appreciate, and the characters gradually grew on me.

However, truth be told, I’d never gotten around to playing it until last weekend during my cold spell.

I was hesitant to actually play because one, I don’t care for the first-person game genre. And second, the perspective makes me queasy and dizzy. But I obtained the game, it sat on my hard drive for a while, and when I started coming up with the ideas for these character designs, I literally thought to myself, “Can I really call myself a fan when I haven’t even played?”

So I bit the bullet, played the game, and finished it in three days.

Now I honesty LOVE IT. I hope to obtain Portal 2 eventually, with all of its hilarious glory. xD

Now, onto what we’ve got here! (I actually used a lot of Mega Man for inspiration, as I was looking for tech but not so much tech, or something like that.)

The A.I. of the hour
GlaDOS: I used her colors from Portal 2, as there was more reference material and a lot less confusion in design. ~xAllyCat had a great suggestion to use Caroline as a base, since technically they’re the same person, but somehow it didn’t work. Instead, she ended up more like Tron, lol. But I was kind of shooting for the alluring, almost friendly, evil, and I think I got it.

The Personality Cores
I gave them all names. Yes, names. Why? Because I felt it would make them more characterized. After all, Valve put way too much character into these cores to just let them be only that.

Temperance – The Morality Core: This is the only name I found that could work, because this core neither speaks, or does anything in general rather than be a voice of reason, so almost anything can happen with both character and gender. I just went with female to balance out what was going on here. xD Temperance seems to me like a peacemaker, one who can solves problems without even saying a word. She just seems to have that kind of aura just by looking at her. (And yes, she is just floating there. I don’t have to explain anything xP.)

Vinita – The Curiosity Core: One meaning for this name is “knowledge,” and this core seems to be seeking for it constantly. This core was probably my most favorite of the firsts, and I can imagine her being always questioning and bright, looking for answers to the strangest ponderings. In other words, likeable, but able to drive everyone nuts.

Hobart – The Intelligence Core: Or logic, or cake, or whatever you what to call him. But one meaning for “Hobart” is intelligence, and it was pretty much all I could find that I liked. This core always made me laugh for its seriousness and stability…about cake. And looking at this guy, it’s even funnier. I pictured him very calm and studious, sort of like the big brother to the rest of them. But I can imagine no one would want to try his cooking. Ever.

Evron – The Anger Core: : Ah, yes, the core of a thousand nightmares. I hated catching this brat in the game and I sure didn’t care for it snarling at me as a result. ><; Even so, he probably my most favorite of my designs. I wanted to shoot for the psychotic look, and with a name that means “overflowing anger,” it works indefinitely! Even so, it almost looks like you want to give him a hug. Of course, you’d probably get bitten. I think he’d probably be very protective of the other cores if he felt like it.

So, yeah, that’s it. X3
